Bridging Books & Beyond:
My Passions, Readings, and Reflections
In the summer of 2022, right after celebrating my 15th birthday, I embarked on an impactful journey by undertaking the YouthLine training, setting the stage for a deeply transformative and insightful phase of my high school years.
I have been volunteering at Youthline – a teen-to-teen crisis line based in Oregon, where I am given the opportunity to connect with teens from around the globe who are struggling with their mental health. Volunteering at a teen-to-teen crisis line has been an incredibly eye-opening and moving experience. This teen-to-teen crisis line has been more than just volunteering; it's been a profound voyage into understanding, compassion, and genuine human connection. Each shift unfurls a myriad of emotions, from the anxious pauses before a call to the relief and satisfaction after providing support. As I hear the often raw, always real stories from fellow teens, I'm constantly reminded of the fierce resilience that runs deep in our generation. Every voice I connect with tells a unique, compelling tale, teaching me invaluable life lessons on empathy, strength, and the complexities of growing up in today's world. And as each week passes, the bond I share with my fellow Youthline volunteers strengthens. We're more than just a team; we're a close-knit community of passionate high schoolers determined to make a positive difference.

This experience has shown me the transformative power of truly listening and the lasting impact of a few heartfelt words. Every call, every interaction, leaves an indelible mark on my heart, fueling my passion and commitment to this cause even more.
